Mount Hood, OR
For 30 years I have been hearing my mom talk about the Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood.
As a young woman fresh out of college in the ’50s my mom packed up her VW bug and drove across the country from Grove City, PA to Portland, OR. At 4’9” she was a very independent woman. Her first job was in teaching and she lived with a minister’s family.
During this time she traveled around the Portland area and enjoyed hiking, skiing and camping.
Her love of mountains was probably only close to her love of my father.
As her memory fades due to Alzheimer’s, I would like to create my own memories of that place that made such an impact on her. Exploring the beautiful landscape and uniqueness of that place, I can imagine her there. Being impressed by everything she experienced in that place would be a connection beyond what we are able to have now.
